A ballast is an electrical component that enables the operation of certain light sources. It limits the current, provides the correct operating voltage and, in the case of gas discharge lamps, handles ignition. Conventional ballasts (magnetic and electronic) originate from fluorescent lamp technology. In the LED sector, the LED driver takes over this function.
Beam angle explained simply: meaning, values & selection
The beam angle describes the angle at which a light source emits its light. It is measured in degrees and defines the area within which the luminous intensity reaches at least 50 per cent of its maximum value. A narrow beam angle produces a tightly focused, concentrated cone of light. Choosing the right beam angle largely depends on the intended application and the desired lighting effect.
