A pendant luminaire is suspended from the ceiling by a cable, wire or rod and produces direct, indirect or direct-indirect light depending on its design. Types include single pendants, multi-light, linear and cluster pendant luminaires. Above a dining table, the lower edge should hang approximately 60–70 cm above the table surface.
Prismatic covers explained: Glare-free light through micro-prism optics
A prismatic cover (also known as a micro-prismatic cover) is a transparent plastic panel with a finely structured surface made up of thousands of tiny prisms. This micro-prism structure refracts and scatters light in a targeted way, distributing it glare-free, evenly, and softly throughout a room – with a light transmittance of up to 90%. Compared to simple acrylic covers, the prismatic cover offers significantly better glare reduction and achieves lower UGR values. Manufacturers such as Knapstein use this technology in their LED luminaires.
