Occhio ONE Lighting Control Explained: App, Gateway & KNX
Occhio ONE at a Glance
Occhio ONE is the new lighting control platform from Occhio. It combines the completely redesigned Occhio app, the Occhio gateway for Smart Home platforms such as Apple Home, Amazon Alexa and Google Home, and the Occhio PRO gateway for professional KNX building control systems. Existing Occhio air installations remain compatible and can continue to be used with the new Occhio app. For standard lighting control, the app is sufficient; gateways are only required if Occhio luminaires are to be integrated via voice control, Matter-based Smart Home systems or KNX.
What Is Occhio ONE?
Occhio ONE is not a single device, but a system for the digital lighting control of Occhio luminaires. At its core is the new Occhio app: it controls individual luminaires, groups, rooms and scenes, making functions such as dimming, Occhio color tune and up/down fading particularly intuitive to access. The Occhio gateway adds Smart Home and voice control functions, while the Occhio PRO gateway is designed for integration into professional KNX systems.
The system is based on the existing Occhio air technology and the proven Bluetooth-based network. This means that the familiar Occhio lighting solution remains intact and can be expanded with new control options—from personalised widgets in the app and the magic wheel to Smart Home connectivity, remote access and system-wide scene control.
The New Occhio App: Lighting Control via Smartphone
The new Occhio app is the heart of Occhio ONE. It replaces the previous Occhio air app and brings together the most important lighting control functions in a new, more personal interface. Users can control luminaires individually, create groups and rooms, save lighting moods and place frequently used functions directly on the home screen.
The new Occhio ONE app has been available free of charge from the Apple App Store and Google Play since August 2026. It supports iOS 15 and later as well as Android 7 and later.
Widgets: Personalised Home Screen for Luminaires, Rooms and Scenes
The home screen of the Occhio ONE app can be customised individually with widgets. Widgets are available for individual luminaires, groups, rooms and scenes. They can be arranged by drag & drop, displayed in different sizes and tailored to personal habits. This means frequently used lighting commands are immediately available—without lengthy menu navigation.
Magic Wheel: Intuitive Control of Brightness, Colour Temperature and Up/Down Fading
The magic wheel is the central new control element of the Occhio app. It realistically displays the respective luminaire and shows the lighting effect in real time. Depending on the luminaire model, brightness, colour temperature via Occhio color tune and the ratio of direct to indirect light via up/down fading can be adjusted particularly intuitively. Operation takes place within a single interface—precise, visual and without complicated submenus.
Rooms: Control Luminaires, Groups and Scenes Together
With the room concept of the new Occhio app, several luminaires and groups can be combined into one room, such as a living room, dining area, kitchen or home office. Within a room, users can switch between luminaires and groups with a swipe. Through synchronisation, settings can be aligned again at room level, creating a consistent lighting mood across the entire area.
Scenes: Recall Lighting Moods with One Tap
Scenes save lighting moods for different situations. Depending on the luminaire, brightness, colour temperature and the up/down ratio can be stored and recalled later with a single tap—for example for focused work, relaxed evening light or an atmospheric dinner. Scenes can be placed on the home screen as dedicated widgets.
Occhio Gateway: Smart Home Integration and Voice Control
The Occhio gateway expands compatible Occhio luminaires with Smart Home functions such as remote access, diagnostics, automated processes and system-wide scene control—even when no smartphone is nearby. It is based on the existing Occhio air technology and connects Occhio lighting control to modern Smart Home systems through Matter integration and its always-on capability.
With the Occhio gateway, Occhio luminaires can be connected to platforms such as Apple Home, Amazon Alexa and Google Home. This also enables voice control via Siri, Alexa or Google Assistant. The gateway is therefore the right solution for private living spaces where Occhio lighting is to be conveniently integrated into an existing Smart Home.
Technically, the Occhio gateway works with Bluetooth Low Energy and Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz). Power is supplied via USB-C. The device is designed for indoor operation at an ambient temperature of 10 to 30 °C.
Occhio PRO Gateway: KNX Integration for Professional Lighting Control
The Occhio PRO gateway is designed for professional installations where Occhio luminaires are to be integrated into a KNX building control system. In addition to remote access, diagnostics, automated processes and system-wide scene control, it enables certified KNX integration and therefore acts as a bridge between Occhio lighting worlds and professional home automation.
With the Occhio PRO gateway, Occhio luminaires, groups and rooms can be integrated bidirectionally into KNX systems with their individual functions. Depending on the luminaire model, these include on/off, dimming, Occhio color tune, up/down fading, magic move and focus light. Lighting scenes can also be linked to KNX scenes. This makes the PRO gateway particularly suitable for high-end residential projects, offices, hospitality, commercial spaces and professional building automation with systems from manufacturers such as Busch-Jaeger, Gira, Jung or Basalte.
The Occhio PRO gateway supports Bluetooth Low Energy, Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz) and USB-C. Network connection can be established via Wi-Fi; Ethernet connection is possible via a USB-to-Ethernet adapter. Available accessories include a KNX kit with Occhio KNX module and USB-to-Ethernet adapter, as well as an optional wall mounting kit. The PRO gateway is also intended for indoor operation at 10 to 30 °C.
Occhio Air Controller: Lighting Control Without a Smartphone
The Occhio air controller remains part of Occhio lighting control and is fully compatible with the new Occhio app. It enables selected luminaires, groups and scenes to be controlled without a smartphone. This is particularly practical when lighting moods need to be recalled quickly in everyday life with a simple click—for example at the dining table, in the living room, bedroom or in commercial spaces.
Compatibility: Does Occhio ONE Work with Existing Occhio Air Luminaires?
Occhio ONE is designed for backward compatibility. Existing Occhio air installations and Occhio luminaires remain usable with the new Occhio app. This means that existing lighting solutions can continue to be controlled and expanded with new app functions such as widgets, rooms, scenes and the magic wheel.
The Occhio gateway is required for Smart Home integration via Apple Home, Amazon Alexa or Google Home. The Occhio PRO gateway is intended for integration into KNX building control systems. The exact functions available depend on the respective luminaire model, the existing installation and the gateway solution used.
- Occhio app: central lighting control for existing Occhio air installations and compatible Occhio luminaires; with widgets, rooms, scenes and magic wheel.
- Occhio gateway: Smart Home and voice control integration via Apple Home, Amazon Alexa and Google Home; with Matter integration, remote access, diagnostics, automated processes and system-wide scene control.
- Occhio PRO gateway: certified KNX integration for professional building automation; with bidirectional integration of luminaires, groups, rooms and Occhio functions into KNX systems.
- Occhio air controller: physical remote control for Occhio air luminaires and Occhio ONE, set up via the Occhio app.
